Spiel des Jahres Award 2019: Two nominated and four recommended games

Friedberg, May 20th 2019: On Monday Harald Schrapers, chairman of the jury of "Spiel des Jahres", has announced all nominations and a list of recommended games for the "Spiel des Jahres 2019" award. Fabulantica from designer Marco Teubner has been nominated for Kinderspiel des Jahres (children’s game of the year), whereas Detective from designer Ignacy Trzewiczek has been nominated for Kennerspiel des Jahres (connoisseurs' game of the year). Four games have been recommended by the jury: Magic Maze Kids (children’s game of the year), Paper Tales (connoisseurs' game of the year) as well as Reef and Krasse Kacke/Who did it? (game of the year). The jury will announce the winner of the Kinderspiel des Jahres on Monday, June 24th, in Hamburg, and the winner of Kennerspiel des Jahres and Spiel des Jahres on Monday, July 22nd, in Berlin.

The company’s history in recent years is closely linked with the awards of the jury Spiel des Jahres. In 2012 Pegasus Spiele has won the Kennerspiel des Jahres award for Village (along with eggertspiele), in 2014 the Kennerspiel des Jahres award for Istanbul and the Spiel des Jahres award for Camel Up (along with eggertspiele) followed by the Spiel des Jahres 2017 award for Kingdomino and Spiel des Jahres 2018 award for AZUL (along with Plan B Games/Next Move). Furthermore, there were more numerous nominations and recommendations. In 2019 the success story continues with two nominations and four recommendations.

Pegasus Spiele is very pleased with the nomination of Fabulantica. After the release of the new series of children’s games in 2015, the first nomination for Reiner Knizias Mmm! followed one year later on. Now success keeps going on with Fabulantica, editorially managed by Claudia Geigenmüller. A spell that went wrong has dispersed the inhabitants of Fabulantica throughout the entire land. The inhabitants are now hiding out in the towers and waiting for the help of 2 to 5 players big and small ages 6 and up. Kids can put their memory to the test in order to track down the inhabitants.

In the challenging category Kennerspiel des Jahres, the cooperative crime-boardgame Detective got nominated. In this game the players operate as a same-named detective in the present to solve mysterious crimes. In five cases the basic game tells a thematic and interwoven story, which requires high attention and thoughtful moves. The extension L.A. Crimes got already released and delivers even more suspenseful cases in a new setting. A voluminous online database which can be accessed via app, tablet or computer simulates a professional investigation experience for up to 5 players.

Magic Maze Kid
s as a junior version of the Spiel des Jahres 2017 nominee Magic Maze once again delighted the jury so that they made a recommendation.  Paper Tales by Frosted Games and Pegasus Spiele was set on the list of recommended games for the Kennerspiel des Jahres award and convinced as an intelligent draft-card game with extraordinary illustrations. Even two games made it on the list of recommendation for the Spiel des Jahres award: In the fast card game Who did it? the emotions may start boiling so that there will be no single dry eye left. In the abstract game Reef (by Plan B Games/Next Move and Pegasus Spiele) instead it is advantageous to stay cool.
